Pros: easy to install came with low profile bracket
Cons: none at all
Other Thoughts: my external portable usb 3.0 drive went from reading/writing at 30mbs to reading/writing 133mbs
Pros: Bought two because I had a Windows machine and a Linux machine that only had USB-2. This was very inexpensive but worked perfectly. Had drivers for XP and Win7, none needed for Linux.
Cons: None, but don't forget to hook up the power cable.
Etron J168a Universal Controller Drivers
Pros: Uses PCIe x1 port and worked fine on my old P5e fully loaded mombo: Pair of HD5850 and SB X-Fi sound. For windows 7 download the 118 driver package. Dont bother with the one on the disk. Shows up as 'Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller' and also 'Etron USB3.0 Extensible Root Hub'
Cons: Does not have the latest driver but came with instructions on how to find them.
Other Thoughts: First tried an Orico and then a Renesas (Nec chip) USB3 and the provided drivers could not even recognized their boards and neither vendor provided info on newer drivers. Orico uses Fresco drivers and if you go to the Fresco site the links to their drivers are missing. After trying both of those X1 boards I remembered that I had used Etron's X4 board that had eSata as well as USB3 and I sure enough I found this X1 board on Newegg and it worked fine just like their X4 with eSata.
Rca Universal Controller
Pros: Win 10 installed it's own version of a USB 3.0 driver, which works fine.
Cons: In the Overview it says 'Internal HDD Power Connector for Supply Extra +5V Power to USB Ports'. Sounds like you would only need the extra power to run a 2.5' drive, or something like a charger. The power connecter is not just for 'Extra' power, you have to have it for the unit to work. Could have been a little clearer about that.
Universal Remote Control
Other Thoughts: On a Win 7 machine upgraded to Win 10 it works. I didn't have an extra sata power plug, but I did find I had a spare molex to sata adapter, so it worked out ok. Gave 5 eggs because it was easy to install, and works.
Pros: - It will help improve FreeBSD's Etron EJ168A support
- It does negotiate USB 2.0 speeds on hotplugged devices
- 480M is sufficient for my USB attached drives
- The item description is clear on the card's chipset
Cons: - Does not negotiate USB 3.0 devices on reboot under FreeBSD
- Hot plugged USB 3.0 devices are slow to negotiate and negotiate to USB 2.0 HIGH (480M) speed
Other Thoughts: Next time I'll know to google the OS and the chipset prior to purchasing.
We thank you for your interest in one of our products. Unfortunately you are correct, and it seems their isn't full support from the Etron Chipset for the FreeBSD distro. This device should work to its full potential with other Operating Systems such as Windows, MAC, and certain distros of Linux.
We're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

Pros: Easy enough to install card and drivers from CD.
Etron J168a Universal Controller Driver 2017
Cons: Contrary to what SYBA support advised me prior to purchase the PCIe slot is not enough power to power the card. It needs to be directly connect to the PSU and the power supply in my Dell seemed only to be planned for connecting up to two hard drives and or two CD/DVD drives.
Other Thoughts: I experimented, when the USB connectors did not work (external drive not seen), by moving the power from a DVD drive to the card and it worked. Unfortunately I had to move that connector back to the DVD drive, so the card again failed to work.
We apologize for the inconvenience you have gone through.
Our cards will require either a SATA power port or molex to make them properly work, and we're sorry if you were ill advised on this.
That being said, you should also have enough SATA power ports in order to use this device. We would advice you use a 4pin molex to SATA power cable to use more devices on your computer.

Etron J168a Universal Controller Driver Download
Pros: Full USB 3.0 speed uses SATA power adapter which most PCs have these days.
Cons: I had a similar card before and the driver became corrupt somehow and it did not work. I tried updating and removing but it did not help. I had to remove the oem inf file from the drivers folder and remove it completely before I could re-install and then it worked fine.
Pros: Plugged it into my Win 7 pro system and it worked well after loading the drivers. Does what it was supposed to. Would buy again.
Cons: none
