Sony's Cyber-shot digital camera series has been consistently popular since the mid-'90s. These digital cameras are now compatible with many computers. Most cameras' drivers are included in the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems, so no further action is necessary. However, with other operating systems or special circumstances where the driver is not found on the system, a painless driver installation for the camera may be necessary.

Step 1

Make sure the camera and USB cable are not connected to the computer during the entire driver installation process and close all running programs or applications to avoid possible interference with the installation.

Step 2

Insert the CD-ROM that was included in the camera's original box. Use Windows Explorer to locate the driver for your Cyber-shot digital camera on the CD-ROM. The file name is 'USBDRVEN.EXE.'

Step 3

If you are unable to use the CD, go to the Sony eSupport website and click on the 'Cyber-shot Cameras' link under the 'Cameras and Camcorders' tab. Choose 'Drivers & Software' under 'Support by type' on the left side of the screen, then select your camera's model and download the driver on the following page.

Step 4

Double-click the located or downloaded USBDRVEN.EXE file to start the installation process. Agree to run the program and select a location to uncompress the file. Open the new folder and double-click the Setup.exe icon.

Step 5

Agree with the instructions on the following two InstallShield Wizard screens by clicking 'Next,' and allow the wizard to install the files. Restart your computer when prompted to do so.

The installation of the driver should be complete after the computer has restarted. Connect your camera to the computer using the USB cable.
