The bootable media is a USB flash drive or a CD/DVD with Acronis software on it. This way, you can recover from a backup in case your computer does not boot. Acronis True Image Bootable ISO is an integrated backup and recovery software that ensures the security of all of the information on your PC. It can back up your documents, photos, email, and selected partitions, and even the entire disk drive, including operating system, applications, settings, and all of your data.

I have tried many times to make a bootable recovery disk for my Acronis 2012 and none boot my computer. I have been on CHAT 4 times and each time the Middle Eastern person does the best to help me but no good. We have had me make a CD with the Acronis program. No joy. We have downloaded the .iso file from Acronis site. No joy. We have used Windows AIK, and Acronis Plus Pack. No Joy. We have used many different techniques with many different drives, and many coasters made. Still No joy. The funny thing is, the first one I made will boot my wife's lappy.
IF I were to order the Acronis 2012 installation disk, do you think that disk would boot my machine? Neither I nor the Chat people have any idea why I can't burn a bootable disk for my machine. Dell XPS Gen5 machine. My wife's is a new HP dv6z Quad Ed.
Thanks,
Dave
What type errors are you getting and at what point is the boot failing?
Ordering a normal installation disk would be of no help. The problem you are having is related to it being a Dell machine and none of the CD's that you have tried has the needed drivers.
You need help from technical support. Create a written support ticket and relate to your live Chat. They should be able to help you but the fix may not be instantaneous until they find what type of driver is needed. Most likely, they will ask you to create and submit some files relating to the configuration of your computer.
Have you tried creating a boot disk on the HP machine and using it on the Dell? The HP would produce the same type CD as would the Dell via a iso download.
I get no errors. On reboot with the CD my computer gets to the black DOS-like screen, and it says: 'Starting Acronis Loader...' Then there is a flashing cursor, and it never goes past that point. The last Chat guy had me make something called a Bart PE boot disk. That one reached the same screen on reboot, but it said: 'Windows is loading files...' And that's where it stays.
I don't see the point in trying a Boot CD created on my wife's machine, but I will try it. I'm glad I bought a 100 count spindle of blank CD's.
By 'written support ticket' do you mean contact them by Email instead of Chat?
I'm still wondering if an Acronis 2012 install disk would boot the machine. It used to be, years ago, that those would suffice to boot the machine to access the recovery files if you booted from them. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks,
Dave
*edit* BTW, the email reply notification for this forum doesn't work (for me) either. ;)

An Acronis 2012 install disk doesn't have more chances to boot than the ones you tried. Don't waste your time/money.
Did you try to produce a WinPE based disk? It looks like, but I want to make sure.
It looks like your computer has some hardware that is not by default shipped within the Windows AIK. You would have to inject the drivers of your motherboard into the WinPE image. I googled that and found http://www.commodore.ca/windows/inject_drivers_pe_3_0_windows_7/inject_drivers_winpe.htm
@Pat L:
Yes on the Windows PE disk. No joy on that one.
The link on 'injecting' mb drivers is way over my head. I'm not really a techie.
Dave
Well, the Window PE is really your best shot here... It is weird that it doesn't work. Does the WinPE disk work on your wife's computer?

Never tried that.
Let's see. If it does, at least we are sure it was produced correctly...

Ok. My next opportunity.
But you know, the description of 'Bootable Recovery Media Builder' suggests something that harvests, from each individual computer, whatever your individual computer needs for the CD to be able to boot your particular machine. Such as drivers. I would have thought that, with all the talent and resources Acronis possesses, the recovery CD would have gotten all drivers from the Windows folders. I mean, if Windows boot my computer, then it's possible for a properly programmed Acronis 'media builder' to do. But I guess that's not what happens at all. The so called builder just burns a generic disk, and hopes to heck it works. I'm very disappointed that the 'builder' ....doesn't. How much time and expense would that save if it did? Not to mention the effect on customer relations. Just sayin'.
*edit1* The first (and only) install disk I ever bought from Acronis was ATI 8. I discovered it while looking through my pile of optical disks. So I put it in my drive, and rebooted my computer. Guess what? It worked. It would have let me restore a saved Acronis .tib file, but it could not read the new 2012 backup file. So, I would like to know, what they did to let this old install CD boot my computer that they are not doing now? Maybe if I order an install disk for ATI 2012, it would also work. Why is this all of a sudden complicated?
*edit2* And oh yeah. The notification I'm supposed to get when new comments are posted, doesn't work for me either. ;)
Chat?
No. Check out the support link along the left margin under Useful Links. Also, the support option is available upper right corner of this page.
If version 8 booted your computer, this would imply that an older driver was removed from the current installation disk. The install disk you are talking about ordering would be no different than the downloaded program file from your account.
Checking to see if the custom WinPE or BartPE disk would work on your wife's computer is a good troubleshooting idea.
Curious. How is your keyboard and mouse attached? PS2 or USB or wireless?
Keyboard is a regular keyboard jack on the back of my computer.
Mouse is an Evoluent Vertical Mouse connected to a USB port on my monitor.
I would think that if one or both of these were a problem, the recovery disk would still boot the computer, but the input devices would not work. And that should be the only thing that might do. AFAIK. That happened with ATI8. It booted my machine but the mouse did not work, But the keyboard did. That was the only way I could navigate to the backup file.
Also, the only support options I can find are: Live Community, Email, and Live Chat
My service time has expired so I am unable to provide you specific screens but the screen you need to fill out the serial, operating system, etc should be adjacent to where you selected live chat. This will be via their email forms so you will have additional record of contacting them within the initial 30 day support coverage.
Sometimes it can be helpful if you disconnect any extra usb devices such as card readers, usb hubs, etc. These can be disabled via the Device Manager via a right click on the device. The best usb connector to use is the one in rear of your computer case.

Do you have access to a normal ps2 wired mouse that you could try?
My suggestions are just things you can try with no guarantee of success.
To avoid ruining more CD blanks, using a usb Flash/thumb drive is another option for creating an Acronis bootable device. If you try this, be sure and attach the usb device before you startup the 'Create bootable media' option.

Well, I don't know what to say.
I created the recovery CD, using the ATI 2012 program, on my wife's computer, and rebooted my machine with the disk.
The first message I got was:
-----------------------------------
'Starting Acronis Loader...'
The second message I got was:
---------------------------------------
'Acronis Loader: Unable to run Boot menu
Press Enter to continue...'
-----------------------------------
So I pressed Enter and the CD booted into the Acronis Recovery window where I could either make a backup or recover from one made by the program in Windows.
So I guess this problem is solved. No idea why my drives couldn't create this workable CD. I used the burner that came with my Dell. And I have a new Asus slim drive I tried as well. Neither CD or DVD would boot my machine. GO FIGURE!!! LOL!
And I have no idea how to interpret the second message from the CD that worked. Any ideas on that one? But I'm a lot happier than I was just a little while ago. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
Dave
I had the same message, but when it loaded the program the pointer kept changing to busy, then not. When I tried to restore an image it started but only got so far then failed.
Have you done a successful restore?

No I have not done a restore yet. I should really do that on one of my spare external drives. Thanks for reminding me. When I do that, I will post the results.

Since I use a EZ-Swap 2 removable HDD cart for my C: drive, it was a simple matter for me to put my spare drive in another cart and try to restore my backup to this drive. The Bootable Recovery CD booted my computer. And, after I figured out which drive was which in the Acronis Recovery program, it restored my system perfectly. As far as I can tell the recovered system is exactly as it should be. Everything I tried has worked perfectly. In fact I'm using it right now to post the result here.
I hope this answers your question.
Dave
P.S. The only thing that still does not work is the 'Notify me when new comments are posted' which I have checked, from this forum site. LOL!
