Hey,
I just found your post and I#m having the exact same problem! I#m using the USB-Datalogger vom Davis (Windows version) and it worked fine on 10.5. I used my own objective-c program to read the serial device (cu.SLAB_USBtoUART)! After switching to 10.6 the old driver didn't work. So I downloaded the latest one from Silabs site and couldn't find any device in the /dev folder! So it seems that the driver doesn't support the usb datalogger.
I talked to Davis but they don't want to know about drivers for mac and send me ti Silabs. So I talked to Silabs and they said that sit's not their problem and the current OS X driver isn't 10.6 compatible right now! I asked for protocol information or Mac sources but they don't want to help. The only source I get is the linux one from their page. But I don#t know how to implement the source into my objective-c app.
It's a pitty that Davis isn't interested in Mac support and that Silabs doesn't open their protocol 😟 Maybe here is somebody that can help to implement the linux source into an obj-c app ??

I'm not sure a clean install will improve anything for you. What you might look at is finding out exactly why your machine is slow. First, do you really have a system problem or it is just an older system slowed down by newer software? I would download & run EtreCheck. Post the results and let someone analyst it. That might help resolve some issues before spending time doing re installations. Then you can consider whether or not you feel the need for a clean install.

You can clean install the OS and still have incompatible apps or corrupt files in your user account. Migrating bad files or apps from your backup may give you the same results. So, I would recommend to boot from the install usb, wipe the drive clean and reinstall the OS. When you first boot into it, use SetUP Assistant to migrate your data and user account from TM or any other backup disk you may have. Do not include preference files, settings, or apps. You can recreate all settings for your account as you go. Do a clean install of all your apps.

Usb

This would be easier than recreating your account and manually replacing your files. Especially if you have a lot of photos, music, etc. This method might prevent problems with reconnecting to photo libraries and music libraries.

Just want to point out that restoring from time machine and migrating from TM are 2 different things. If you do a restore from a TM backup from the recovery drive, it will erase the drive and replace the entire system and files from the point in time you choose. When you first boot into a new install and it ask to restore your user account from a TM backup or other disk, you will just be migrating user account files as you choose. This will not replace your OS system files.
